Objective:
The webinar aims to highlight the effects of Covid 19 on the Australian labour market specifically on the resulting shifts in the demand and supply of Filipino workers. By looking into the needs of Australian employers for workers in critical industries while also addressing the need to provide employment for our Filipino workers, POLO hopes to provide a platform by which to contribute to both countries’ efforts to manage the pandemic. It also showcases joint efforts by both the Australian demand side and the Philippine supply side of the labour market working in solidarity to address a global pandemic. It comes at a perfect time as both countries commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Philippine – Australia diplomatic relations.
POLO has invited a representative from the Fair Works Ombudsman (FWO) to talk on workplace entitlements as well as adjustment in work arrangements relative to the pandemic. For the demand side of the labour market, we have invited a representative of an Australian Placement agency accredited with POLO which caters specifically to Australian companies in need of Filipino workers. We have asked him to focus on the continuing need for our Filipino workers despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic. To speak on Philippine government labour regulations in response to Covid, a representative from POEA will speak on initiatives to ensure that Filipino workers are Covid safe. He will also discuss recent developments in the Philippines relating to the deployment of Filipino workers.
